The New Face of Vaginal Rejuvenation
For women having difficulties with stress urinary incontinence, vaginal atrophy, dryness and overall irregularities, there is now an effective and non-invasive solution, with an added bonus of only 5-7 days downtime. As a result of several different factors, including menopause, hormonal changes, drastic weight loss and childbirth, women can suffer laxity of vaginal canal, damage to the pelvic wall and devitalized mucosal wall. This in turn can lead to a decreased quality of life, sexuality and self-confidence, as well as the abovementioned problems.
Dr Nondumiso Makhunga-Stevenson of Aurora Medical Aesthetics explains that the new solution, known as GyneLase, is a high-tech solution that uses a CO2 laser system to address the abovementioned vaginal conditions through different operation modes.
The procedure involves the energy-based device applying micro laser impacts to the various layers of the vagina and ensuring that healthy tissue is left between these impacts. By means of a terminal, a GyneScan scanner is inserted into the vaginal canal. Hereafter the laser energy acts on the vaginal mucosa, thereby reshaping, toning and stimulating the tissue and regenerating the collagen. The treatment can also be used to treat HPV (Human papilloma virus), genital bleaching, cystocele and rectocele.
Dr Makhunga-Stevenson adds that the procedure includes a full examination, a pap smear and a urinary test that is done beforehand, to ensure that all possible reasons for the problems are eliminated before a decision is made for the treatment. This will thus encourage regular pap smears in order to prevent cervical cancer.
For urinary incontinence, the therapy is used to photothermally retract the anterior wall of the vagina and the endopelvic fascia in a minimally invasive manner. For this therapy, 90% of patients have reported improvement in just 2 sessions of the laser treatment. There is also a cosmetic aspect to the therapy, whereby reconstructive surgery of the vulva can be realized. Congenital abnormalities are addressed through reshaping of the vulva, labia minora and the hymen. The GyneLaser can also be used to treat postpartum perineal scars, hypertrophy of the labia majora and the clitoris. In addition, da2rkened genital tissue can be lightened.
