If you are wanting to get fitter and healthier, it may just be better to get your partner to workout with you in order to achieve better results.

A study done by the Department of Kinesiology at Indiana University, surveyed married couples who joined health clubs together, and the results were very clear. Couples who worked out separately had a 43% dropout rate over the course of a year. Whereas the couples who exercised together, regardless of what type of workout they did, only had a 6.3% dropout rate.

This may seem a bit unlikely, but one of the things that connects you most to your partner during a workout, is the fact that you can co-ordinate your actions. This results in non-verbal matching or mimicry, which is proven to help people feel emotionally attuned with one another.

It is a long standing fact in social psychology that simply being in the presence of someone else will affect your ability to do an activity. So if your partner acts as a positive reinforcement, it is proven that they can better your own physical performance, without you even being aware of it.
