Dr Alison Bentley
Dr Alison Bentley is a clinician who has been involved in sleep research and sleep disorders for almost 30 years. She holds BSc (1979), MBBCh (1982) and PhD (2007) degrees from the Faculty of Health Sciences at Wits where she is an honorary lecturer in family medicine. Dr Bentley researches and publishes on sleep-related disorders, and teaches medical research techniques and scientific writing.
She is the editor of Sleep Matters, a newsletter on sleep disorders for doctors and she serves on the executive committee of the South African Society of Sleep Medicine. She consults in sleep medicine and sleep disorders in adults and children and runs a sleep therapy clinic at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre.
Dr Dominique Stott
Executive: medical standards and services at PPS Insurance.
I joined the life insurance industry at Liberty Life in 1991, doing mostly claims assessments and underwriting risks.
Having always wanted to work at PPS I was given that opportunity in 2008 when I joined as Business Development Executive. This was changed to Medical Standards and Services later when the needs of the company changed.
I am currently in charge of claims and underwriting Research and Development, ensuring PPS remains up to date in underwriting standards and claims assessments. I also manage claims and underwriting audits and automated underwriting standards, as well as liaise with the intermediary force.
PPS insurance and long term wellness go hand in hand. We encourage our members to be as healthy as possible! At PPS we further this aim by liaising with the media to ensure press exposure for health and wellness for mind and body.
Dr Andre’ van Jaarsveld
Dr André Van Jaarsveld is the CEO of BSS Africa. BSS Africa is part of BSS International who is situated in Perth Australia. The core business of BSS is to establish Fit for Work and Fatigue Management Programs in the workplace. He was trained and accredited in Australia to become a Fit for Work and Fatigue Management consultant. He is also the initiator of the new program, Better Sleep Solutions in South Africa to help people with sleeping problems.
BSS Africa is the leader in implementing fatigue management workplace programs. BSS Africa operates in South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Ghana and Senekal. The focus of implementing fatigue management programs in currently on the mining industry, construction, transport and manufacturing.
Dr. Van Jaarsveld is involved in the wellness industry for the last 28 years. He was a founder member of EAP for the Chamber of Mines in South Africa. He was the CEO for the Centre for Human Development (CHD) since 1996 till 2001 when CHD merge with the Careways Group. He was CEO for the Careways Group until April 2006
Specialist Psychiatrist FCPsych(SA), DMH (SA), MBBCh(WITS)
Danella attended Wits Medical School. After graduating from medical school, she worked as an intern at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic hospital and spent time working in the department of psychiatry. Thereafter, she went on to complete the 4 year psychiatry specialist training program through WITS.
After qualifying as a specialist, Danella stayed on as a consultant psychiatrist at Chris Hani Baragwanath where she ran a psychiatry ward and a Dual Diagnosis Clinic. She also started a private practice at Akeso Clinic in Parktown.
Danella believes in a holistic approach to mental health, emphasising lifestyle changes ( diet, exercise etc) as an adjunct to therapy and medication.
Nicola Walters, RD (SA) obtained her Bachelor of Sciences Medical Honours Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics (Cum Laude) at the University of Cape Town. Nicola has worked for Nutritional Solutions since 2013.
Her love of all things nutrition-related is at the cornerstone of her passion for helping others to enhance all aspects of their health. Nicola consults in all areas of health but takes a keen interest in Allergies as well as chronic diseases of lifestyle. Nicola is an accredited DNAlysis practitioner and enjoys optimising her patient’s health outcomes through the individualised interpretation of genetic results.
Nicola hosts cooking classes to teach her clients to translate nutrition science onto their plate. Nicola has represented her country in Hockey and as such has a keen interest in sports nutrition and the art of elevating performance through diet.
Executive financial Planner / Institutional Financial Planner BCompt (Hons), CA (SA)
Shalin has 6 years’ experience in the financial services industry. During this time he completed his articles at First Rand Bank en route to becoming a Chartered Accountant SA within the FirstRand Banking Group, post articles he joined the RMB Morgan Stanley equity research team as an associate covering Banks and General Financials before being promoted to cover the listed real estate sector.
In 2016 Shalin join PPS Financial Planning to aid the cause of promoting financial wellness amongst fellow professionals whilst developing a new business segment aimed at assisting professional firms. He currently serves on the PPS financial planning leadership forum.
