Avoid Middle Age Spread This Festive Season
Avoid middle age spread this festive season by resetting your body. Let’s face it, as we age it gets trickier to maintain a fit and lean body. This is not to say that ageing means you’ll gain weight immediately. However, it’s not uncommon for people to accumulate more weight over the years. And it all boils down to poor eating habits which encourages steady weight gain over time.
Interestingly, we have been accustomed to eating more often than we did in the past. Many of us are adding extra snacks between meals on top of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Often, there is little thought behind every snack. We tend to forget how each one adds up. Did you think about that morning slice of cake? I bet you didn’t. However, that piece of cake can cause your blood sugar levels to spike, which causes the hormone insulin to be released.
Insulin has a negative association. But it actually serves a really good purpose. The hormone helps our body to extract energy from the sugar you eat. The issue is that we don’t balance our energy expenditures properly. If you don’t use the energy then the natural response of insulin is to store the excess energy as fat.
That’s why it’s best to eat clean for the majority of the time. You’re more likely to burn off a sweet potato salad than you are with a slice of cake. The cake will just spike your sugar levels, whereas the sweet potato takes longer to be broken down.
Avoid Middle Age Spread With A Reset
Sometimes, throughout life and festive seasons it can be tough to stick to eating clean. Particularly when you’ve reached a certain age and you just couldn’t care less. I mean, you only live once, right? Well, yes, but you can eat clean without it being a chore and still being able to treat yourself. It just means being a little bit more mindful.
Besides, you need to be careful of the risks of spiking your insulin levels too frequently. Experts say that you can become ‘insulin resistant.’ This is what happens when your pancreas needs to produce more insulin to get rid of the excess sugar in your blood. And when this happens frequently, you end up increasing your body’s insulin production which could lead to a condition called metabolic syndrome.
Genes do play a role. They can make you more predisposed to obesity, Type II diabetes or heart disease. However, most research has found that majority of the cases were triggered by poor lifestyle and eating habits. Daily living habits like sleep, food, exercise and environmental toxins may all be contributors.
Therefore, to be direct, this is an issue that you can correct.
Start Burning The Fat Your Body Stores
The most effective way to reset your body is to train your body to burn its stored fat, rather than relying on sugars and carbohydrates. Doing this might reverse the symptoms associated with metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. And if you’ve been packing on the pounds – trying to avoid middle age spread. Then the stabilization of insulin, blood sugar levels, and lower blood pressure might be the solution to weight loss and a boost of energy.
Do you feel sluggish during the day? Well, changing your habits will allow you to control your hunger by resetting your hunger hormones.
This is how you can do it…
How Can You Get Your Body To Burn Fat?
Interestingly, the human body, by nature, is built to burn fat. This is because of many different reasons. Unfortunately, with Westernized food marketing tactics, people are too dependent on sugar and carbs in food to fuel their with energy.
And the after effects speak for themselves. 50 years down the line, the rates of obesity and Type II diabetes have escalated at a rapid rate. Before that, people only ate when they were hungry and more importantly whole, natural foods,
1. Sleep Is VERY Important
Sleep is a topic we talk about a lot, especially if you want to avoid middle age spread. And this because there’s too many of us not getting in enough hours. Doctors have found that it’s one of the main reasons behind weight gain, depression, pain, inflammation, heart disease, diabetes and many other health issues.
We recommend sleeping for at least seven hours per night if you want to function optimally. It will also do you well to switch off any exposure to artificial light from smart phones, television and other electronics too close to bedtime.
2. Opt For Natural, Whole Foods
My suggestion is to play it safe most days of the week if you want to avoid middle age spread. If you’re unsure what to choose at the dinner table or at the restaurant, then always go for the whole foods option. Nine times out of ten, it will be a whole lot better for you than any processed, cheesy or sugary option available.
Eat loads of the following:
- Non-starchy vegetables, like spinach, kale, bell peppers, tomatoes, courgettes.
- Some lower-sugar fruits (if you can tolerate them), like raspberries, blueberries, strawberries.
- Grass-fed meats, pastured chicken and eggs and wild-caught fish.
3. You Need More Healthy Fats
Yes, you read that right! But I mean a lot more avocados, coconut oil, nuts, seeds, extra-virgin olive oil, and perhaps some grass-fed butter. These will help your body reduce its level of ‘bad’ cholesterol.
Therefore, you have to eat fat to burn fat.
4. Get Rid Of Refined Sugars And Carbohydrates
I usually tell people to avoid middle age spread by staying away from boxed goods entirely. So, throw away white breads, cereals, crisps, biscuits, and cakes.
Of course, you can have a little ‘party food’ and a drink or too, But, it is better to be mindful about your alcohol intake.
5. Try Intermittent Fasting
I don’t want you to starve yourself. However, this could be a great technique for you to use especially leading up to Christmas dinners and lunches. Intermittent Fasting retrains your body to burn fat. It allows your body time to digest the nutrients you eat, and then use them, rather than continually supplying it with an excess of food.
Then within the 16 hour of fast, you’re body will likely exhaust its short-term supply of carbs and turn to burning fat for energy instead.
6. Get Your Body Moving
There is no way that you can burn off a bad diet. Having said that, regular exercise can help a lot! It makes your cells and muscles more sensitive to insulin, so you don’t need as much to deal with sugar spikes. And you don’t need to kill yourself either. Even if you squeeze in a walk or a swim a day for just 30 minutes you’ll notice the difference.
Therefore, adopting new lifestyle habits and tweaking some things you do might be the solution to understanding your body better! Avoid middle age spread with a few changes. Not only will you start seeing amazing physical results, but you will have more energy and feel good too! Plus, you can implement these habits throughout the festive season whilst still having a good time!
