Jennifer Lopez’ Best Stress Handling Technique
Our February/March 2018 cover girl Jennifer Lopez is a powerhouse in every right – being an actress, musical superstar and business mogul. However, the stress of multitasking can get to anyone – regardless of how famous and fabulous you are. In order to prevent feeling overwhelmed as her plate continues to fill up, Jennifer Lopez turns to transcendental meditation.
What is Transcendental Meditation?
Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a meditation technique that takes out 20 minutes of your day- twice a day- and requires you to sit silently while continuously repeating a single mantra. Founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, this type of meditation has become the most popular form of meditation around the world and for good reason. “20 minutes a day in the morning and at night. It was necessary,” Jennifer Lopez stated to People Magazine.
“It was almost like my brain, for the first time in my life, felt like ‘Okay, you bit off more than you can chew.”
Should you try Jennifer’s trick?
According to Ms. Lopez, transcendental meditation goes beyond repeating a mantra for 20 minutes out of your day.
“It’s a whole rounded regimen that deals with your mind, your soul, your spirit and your body. It’s working out, it’s dancing, it’s meditating. And then, at the end of the day, just being happy, being with my kids and feeling the love and the joy that they give me. All of that helps balance it out, so work doesn’t feel so crazy.”
Transcendental meditation is one of the most scientifically researched forms of meditation, and the studies have revealed a wide array of benefits. Click here to find out how meditation not only tackles stress, but also changes your brain.
1. Stress relief
Although our lives may not become as chaotic as Jennifer Lopez’s – dealing with stress is a skillset that we all need to master due to the harmful effects it can have on our health. However, it appears that practicing transcendental meditation is the best way to deal with stress. According to a study published in The Permanente Journal Research, the deep rest that transcendental meditation provides allows the body to recharge – clearing our perceptions and providing much needed relief. This form of stress relief works so well that war veterans have adopted it in order to deal with their PTSD.
At 48, Jennifer Lopez gets better with age and she may have transcendental meditation to thank for that. The meditation technique is a great anti-aging tool as it can turn back the clock – the biological clock that is. According to research studies,
practicing transcendental meditation over a long period of time can lead to you possessing a biological age that’s almost ten years younger than your chronological age.
3. Cardiovascular benefits
Transcendental meditation has been proven to offer ride a wide range of cardiovascular benefits – so much so that the American Heart Association recommends that transcendental meditation be considered as a treatment for hypertension. According to a 2012 study, those who practice transcendental meditation actually lower their risk of heart attack and stroke by 48%.
Although transcendental meditation requires a seven-step course of instruction from a certified teacher before you can practice it on your own, that shouldn’t deter you from joining the likes of Jennifer Lopez and other celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Seinfeld and Jim Carrey. Use transcendental meditation to get a much needed recharge, but also to help you power up as you tackle your next challenge.
