Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is a fun, fitness activity that anybody can do. The activity is becoming quite popular and people of all ages are giving it a try. 1. It Is Insanely Simple
As I mentioned before, the skill is relatively easy to master. Of course, on your first attempt, you will be a little wobbly standing up on the board. You might also struggle to establish a flowing rhythm when switching your oar from side to side and might even find turning around a little tricky. However, once you get the hang of it you can move with ease and start feeling more comfortable. Besides the process of learning is fun and it’s quite nice to feel your body work and certain muscles, particularly the lower body and arms, burn!
2. Torch Hundreds Of Calories
The trick here is that SUP is all about how much effort you put into it. Obviously the more aggressive you are at paddling, the more calories you’ll burn. Yet, you can still burn up to 430 calories in an hour by just casually paddling along. That’s almost double the amount you’d burn on a moderately-paced walk over the same time period. This is an amazing exercise to keep your abdominal muscles fully engaged the entire time. Your leg muscles also have to up their game to help the core in keeping your balance. I think its the best way to cross-train because you’re getting both aerobic and strength-based training. The plus is that it doesn’t feel like you’ve been to the gym either because you’re distracted by your natural environment
4. Low Impact, Revitalising And Soothing
Besides being a fantastic form of exercise, stand up paddleboarding is also a great way to connect with nature. Nature has an incredible ability to provide our minds with a sense of calm and serenity so that we feel restored again. There is no need for those hardcore weight-lifting sessions because SUP will get you into shape without the exhausting intensity of other strength-based workouts. I would say that it’s also a lot less daunting than learning to ski or surf.
Being surrounded by the beauty of nature, it’s pretty relaxing. You can paddle at your own pace and when you get hot and sweaty you can just dive into the water for a refreshing swim.
