Supermodel Secrets: Heidi Klum
Where she started: The German beauty started her modelling career at the age of 18. After moving to New York, she became a Victoria’s Secret model. She achieved supermodel status after appearing on the cover of the 1998 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
Where she is now: Today, this single mother of four is a television host, businesswoman, fashion designer, television producer and even an occasional actress. Along with her ever-popular series Project Runway, she is currently serving a second season as a judge on America’s Got Talent. Klum appeared on the cover of the April edition of the Australian Women’s Health.
Make-up secrets: Klum’s secret to flawless skin? “I tend not to wear make-up on my days off. I am not complicated. I don’t have tons of creams or anything like that. I stay simple,” she told Hollywoodlife.com.
Best body tips: As she shares with Glamour.com, she pretends it is bikini season all year and makes being healthy a lifestyle. “My favourite workout is a long run along the Westside Highway, which stretches along the Hudson River in New York City … it’s a beautiful path, and you always feel surrounded by such an amazing community. You see the same people running every morning, and they inspire me to keep going. That and knowing there is a Starbucks coffee at the end of the route!” She adds that with her busy schedule, the best way is to incorporate exercise into her daily life whenever she can – which can require some creativity. “Sometimes I jump on the trampoline with my kids or take a hike with my dogs in the canyon by my house. Sometimes I run for 30 minutes on my treadmill, but I prefer to be outdoors. When I’m travelling, it could be doing a few sit-ups in my hotel room before I head to work.” When it comes to her diet, she prefers to stick to fresh fruits, vegetables and lean proteins. She also tries to have a fruit-and-veggie smoothie every morning. “My kids and I do it together, and we love it.” However, she believes in everything in moderation. “It’s important to keep a balanced diet, but I’m not a fan of deprivation. If I want a cheeseburger, I am not only going to eat that cheeseburger, but I’m going to enjoy that cheeseburger.”
Her stay-young secret: Keeping up with her kids. “If you can’t run after your kids, that is not good.” She adds: “My mom is more fit than me and I guess I have her as my role-model. We don’t sit around a lot; there is always something to do. Always!”
Quote: “I love when I go out and I have my hair and make-up done, but I also like it when I’m just with the family, because that’s real.”
