Joan Rivers dies at 81 years
Legendary American comedian and television host Joan Rivers has died aged 81. Her daughter Melissa said in an official statement released to the media, “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
Born Joan Alexandra Molinsky, the 81-year-old stopped breathing during throat surgery at a Manhattan medical clinic last week.
According to media reports she had suffered a cardiac and respiratory arrest during her procedure. The Fashion Police co- host was undergoing a relatively minor elective procedure at the clinic, which is about a mile away from the hospital where she was taken.
Ms Rivers had been scheduled to perform her comedy act at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey, the next night.
Her contraversial “shoot from the hip” style of comedy subjected her to a fair bit of criticism over the years, “When people hate me, that’s good,” she told the A.V. Club. “They know I’m there. You’re not a chorus kid. Remember in A Chorus Line, she’s having trouble and he keeps saying, ‘You’re standing out,’ and she’s trying not to? They hate me? That’s good.” She said “When people hate me, that’s good. They know I’m there.
