Three Cheap And Simple Ways To Improve Your Daily Digestion in 2018
Dietary habits are vital to our body’s health. The overload of information on eating healthy for better digestion is often overwhelming to us. And a lot of it is contradictory. A day doesn’t go by without some health myths being busted daily. Because more often than not, it’s simpler than we think.
How Can We Improve Our Health?
It is about taking small steps, consistently over time to get you back on track. These habit help in achieving better dietary habits. It also goes without saying, that eating in moderation, reducing stress and exercising daily is also going to change your health significantly.
Here are three easy dietary kick starter digestive habits to improve your daily health regime:
Start Your Day With A Glass Of Warm Water And Lemon
WHY: Lemon with water alkalises your body, which helps to keep it in an anti-inflammatory state. Drinking a glass of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon first thing in the morning, before breakfast, goes a long way to preparing your body for the day. Lemon is one of the most alkalising fruits that you can eat and it helps to flush your body of toxins. Acidic foods such as meat, dairy, caffeine and sugar destroy the body’s pH, accelerating the aging process. To balance pH, we need to eat 70% alkalised food and 30% acidic.
HOW: It’s so easy to prepare. Just boil water in a kettle, cut three slices of fresh lemon (do not use bottled substitutes, as these contain chemical preservatives), place in a tall cup and pour in the water. Let the lemon infuse for at least 5-10 minutes and allow the water to cool a little before drinking.
2. Take A Tablespoon Of Apple Cider Vinegar Mid-Morning
WHY: Apple cider vinegar is a natural probiotic. It is also much cheaper than buying expensive bottles of probiotics. We all need probiotics to ensure better gut health. Apple cider vinegar can also work as an appetite-suppressant and help those who are managing their weight to portion-control. Only use natural preservative-free apple cider vinegar. Dr Alan Sanua, GP and integrative practitioner, recommends this daily. He says it should loosen your stool as your digestive health improves.
HOW: Take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and pour it into a cup. Fill the cup to half with warm water. Drink immediately. You can also add a little turmeric for a more powerful antioxidant effect. Turmeric is an excellent anti-inflammatory. And remember, an anti-inflammatory diet not only helps to improve the function of internal organs, but also perks up the look of your skin.
3. Drink Green Or Matcha Tea
WHY: Wait! I am not telling you to give up coffee, as there are benefits to drinking coffee in moderation. Rather, switch out one of those extra coffee mugs you indulge in, or one of those other unhealthy drinks like sodas and sugary juices for one of these. There are so many health benefits to drinking green tea and matcha tea – too many to write about here. And you can drink them hot or cold.
HOW: Make sure you buy good quality green and/or matcha tea. Try and ensure the product is organic and comes from a reputable brand. Green tea has caffeine in it, so it is best to drink it in the morning or at least before 3 pm if you are sensitive to caffeine and need your sleep.
Did You Know?
Green tea plants exposed to less sunlight will often have a much higher amount of caffeine, as well as a high amount of the non-dietary amino acid L-Theanine which is a known natural relaxant.
